HISTORY


First inhabitants of Nin were Liburns in 9th century B.C. Nin was first time mentioned in 4th century B.C. In time of Roman domination in 1st century B.C., Nin was called Enona. Croats inhabitated this area in 7th century and Nin was their political and cultural center. In 879. pope Ivan VIII gave letter of recognition of Croatia to duke Branimir. In 1069. Petar Kresimir IV in Nin calls Adriatic sea â?žour seaâ??. During Hungarian domination, Nin was independent town. Ludovik I. Anzuvinac calls Nin â?žour main and royal town of Dalmatiaâ?? in 1371. Nin was under Venetian domination from 1409. till 1537. when Turks occupied Nin, but they didn`t keep it. Inhabitants built walls. After Venetians occupied Nin again, they burnt it and Nin was never so significant after that. After World War II Nin was developing again and in 1997., after Croatia got its independence, it got town status again.

Baptistery of duke Viseslav is one of the most important Croatian monuments. It has six sided shape, 90 cm high. You should also visit Museum of Nin`s antiquities and Reservoir of church artistics. LOCATION AND CLIMATE


Nin (North Dalmatia, Croatia) is a town situated 15 km north from Zadar in Croatian region North Dalmatia. Center of Nin is located on islet, connected with mainland with two bridges. Town Nin has around 1300 inhabitants, but area of Nin has around 5000 inhabitants. Nin is consisted of 6 settlements: Nin, Nisnki Stanovi, Grbe, Zaton, Zerava and Poljica Brig. Climate in area of Nin is Mediterranean with around 2600 sunny hours per year. Summers are hot and dry and winters are mild and moist.
